How to link a kid's iPad
- On your phone or in the web app, open Settings, choose the kid, and tap Link an iPad with a code. You get a 6-character code. It works once and expires soon, so do the next step straight away.
- On the iPad, open the PocketRoo app from the App Store, or Safari at app.pocketroo.app. Tap This is a kid's iPad and type the code.
- That's it: the iPad is now that kid's app. In Safari, use Share > Add to Home Screen so it opens full screen with the PocketRoo icon.
A kid's iPad never needs an account or a password. If the code is refused, it has probably expired: make a new one. If you have several kids, each iPad gets its own code from that kid's page.
Unlink an iPad
On the iPad, open the sidebar and tap Unlink this iPad. Or, as a parent, open Settings > the kid > the device and remove it. Either way the iPad goes back to the welcome screen and can be linked again later. The kid's chores and money are kept; only the device link is removed.
Password and sign-in
- Forgot your password? On the sign-in screen tap Forgot password. We email a link from PocketRoo <hello@pocketroo.app> that lets you choose a new one. The link works once and expires after an hour. Check your spam folder if it does not arrive within a few minutes.
- Confirmation email not arriving? New accounts must confirm their email address before signing in. Search your mail for "PocketRoo". If it is really not there, sign in again and ask for a new one, or email us.
- Change your email in Settings. Both the old and the new address get a confirmation email, and the change happens once you have confirmed from the new one.
- Second parent: open Settings and share the family's invite code. The other parent creates their own account, confirms their email, and chooses Join a family.
Delete your account, or export your data
Export first
In the parents' app, Settings > Export data downloads a file with the whole family: kids, chores, jobs, notes and the full money history. It is yours to keep.
Delete your account
- In the parents' app, open Settings and tap Delete account.
- Confirm. Your parent account is deleted straight away. If you were the last parent in the family, the whole family is deleted too: kids, chores, jobs, notes, money history and every linked iPad's session. If the other parent is still there, the family stays with them.
- If you have a subscription, cancel it separately in your Apple ID settings (deleting the account does not cancel it, because Apple runs the billing).
Deleted data is gone from the live database at once and from backups within 30 days. If you cannot sign in to delete your account, email support@pocketroo.app from the account's email address and we will do it for you.
Subscriptions
- PocketRoo is free for 14 days, then $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year per family, bought in the PocketRoo Parents app and billed by Apple.
- Cancel on your iPhone or iPad under Settings > your name > Subscriptions > PocketRoo. Cancelling during the trial means you are never charged. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- After a subscription ends you can still sign in to export and delete your data.
Other questions
A chore did not show up today
Chores for the coming week are created every few minutes by a scheduler that runs in your family's time zone. Check that the chore is set for today's weekday in Settings > Chores, and that the family's time zone in Settings is right. Pull down to refresh on the kid's screen.
A money line is wrong
Money lines are never edited, so the history stays honest. A parent adds a reversal with a reason from the kid's page, and the balance updates.
Read-aloud is silent or uses a voice we do not like
Read-aloud uses the iPad's own voices. Check the volume and the mute switch, then look under iPad Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Voices to download a nicer voice for your language. Nothing is sent anywhere; it all happens on the device.
Turn the sounds or animations off
Sounds switch off in the kid's sidebar. Animations follow the iPad's Reduce Motion setting under Settings > Accessibility > Motion.
Does PocketRoo hold our money?
No. It only keeps score. You pay the allowance however you like and mark it paid in the app. See PocketRoo is not a bank.
Where is our data, and who can see it?
Only the parents in your family (and each kid for their own chores and money). It is stored with Supabase in the US. The privacy policy lists everything we store.
