Terms of use
These are the rules for using PocketRoo. We have kept them short and in plain language. "PocketRoo", "we" and "us" mean the company that runs PocketRoo [legal entity name to be added]. "You" means the parent or guardian who creates the account. Using PocketRoo means you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy.
1. Who can use PocketRoo
You must be at least 18 and the parent or legal guardian of the children you add. Children use PocketRoo only through a family that a parent has set up, under that parent's supervision. The parent is responsible for the family's use of PocketRoo, including what the children do with it.
2. Your account
- Give us a real email address and keep it current; it is how we reach you about your account.
- Choose a password of at least 8 characters, keep it to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account, including by the other parent you invite and the children you link.
- One family per account. A second parent joins the same family with its invite code rather than creating a new one.
3. Your family's data
- Everything your family enters (names, chores, jobs, notes, money lines) belongs to you. You give us permission to store and process it only so that we can run PocketRoo for you, as described in the privacy policy.
- You are responsible for what you write. Notes about a child can be read by that child, so keep them kind and keep them about the chores.
- You can export your family's data as a file and delete it at any time from Settings.
4. Kids and their devices
- A child's iPad is linked to the child with a code that only a parent can generate. Keep that code to yourself; anyone with it can link a device to that child until it expires or is used.
- A linked device can see that child's chores, jobs and money, and the family's extra jobs, and can only check off chores, claim and finish jobs, and change its buddy. Parents can unlink a device at any time, and a child can unlink their own iPad.
- The kids' app has no purchases, no ads and no links out to the web, apart from the parent-gated support and privacy pages.
5. PocketRoo is not a bank
PocketRoo keeps a record of the allowance, bonuses, penalties and job payments that you and your child agree on. That record is a scoreboard between you and your child. PocketRoo does not hold, move, transfer, pay or receive money, does not connect to any bank or payment account, and is not a bank, a payment service, an e-money provider or a financial adviser. Paying your child is entirely between the two of you, and marking a payout as "paid" in the app only records that you did so. Amounts shown in the app are not a debt owed by us to anyone.
6. Subscriptions and the free trial
- PocketRoo is sold as a subscription per family: 14 days free, then $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year (US dollars; Apple sets the price in other currencies).
- Subscriptions are bought in the PocketRoo Parents app and billed by Apple to your Apple ID. Apple's terms apply to the purchase; we never see your payment details.
- The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Cancel in your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions. Cancelling during the free trial means you are never charged.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's rules (reportaproblem.apple.com).
- The free trial is available once per family. If we change prices, we will tell you in advance and the change applies from your next renewal, with your right to cancel first.
- If a subscription ends, parents can still sign in to export and delete the family's data.
7. Acceptable use
Do not use PocketRoo to break the law, to harm or harass anyone, to put in content that is abusive or that you have no right to use, to try to get at another family's data, to probe or overload our systems, or to copy, resell or reverse-engineer the service. Do not add a child you are not the parent or guardian of.
8. The service and changes to it
We will do our best to keep PocketRoo running and your data safe, but it is a small service and it may sometimes be unavailable, for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We may add, change or remove features over time. The scheduled parts of PocketRoo (creating each day's chores, closing the day, posting bonuses and payouts) run on a schedule in your family's time zone; if a run is late it catches up, but check the app before you rely on a balance.
9. Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings. If you are the last parent in the family, the whole family and its children's device links are deleted too. Export first if you want to keep the history.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or if we stop running PocketRoo. In the second case we will give you reasonable notice and a chance to export your data.
- Sections 5, 10, 11 and 12 continue to apply after your account ends.
10. No warranty
PocketRoo is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, and we give no warranties, express or implied. PocketRoo is a tool to help your family keep track; it is not advice about money, parenting or anything else.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits or lost savings, arising out of or connected with PocketRoo, however caused. Our total liability to you for all claims connected with PocketRoo is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US $50 if that is more. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your statutory consumer rights where you live.
12. Governing law
[Placeholder for legal review: these terms are governed by the laws of [state / country], and any dispute will be heard in the courts of [place], without affecting consumer-protection rights in the country where you live.]
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will email parents before the change takes effect and show a notice in the app. Continuing to use PocketRoo after that date means you accept the new terms. The effective date at the top tells you which version you are reading.
